The list includes items that our shelter needs most. You’ll find everyday essentials like hygiene products and kid’s lunch items, to specific individual needs. Here are just a few examples of what you can contribute:

Personal Care & Hygiene Products: Each client is provided with necessary hygiene products when they arrive at the shelter.
Household Essentials: Help restock our shelter with the basics like bedding, towels, and kitchen supplies.
Gift Items: Whether it’s a birthday, special holiday, or other occasion, gifts help us bring joy to those staying in shelter.

Donate A Car Canada accepts Vehicle Donations for Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society.

Free towing is provided in many areas across Canada or you can drop off your vehicle to maximize your donation. When you donate your RV, boat, motorcycle or other vehicle to Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society through Donate A Car Canada, it will either be recycled or sold at auction depending on its condition, age and location. Donate A Car Canada will look after all the details to make it easy for your Charity to benefit. After your Vehicle Donation is complete, Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society will send you a tax receipt within 45 days!

Pet Safety

We understand that pets are important members of your family and you may be delaying or avoiding leaving your abusive home due to fear of pets being harmed and wanting to keep them safe too.

In order to help you and your pet stay safe, Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society and Alberta Alliance for the Safety of Animals and People (Alberta SPCA) have partnered to assist victims of family violence who are leaving abusive situations. The Pet Safekeeping Program provides short-term housing for pets belonging to individuals who are leaving an abusive situation. They will keep your pet safe and cared for while you make plans for you and your family to live somewhere safe. For further information, please contact our helpline at (403) 529-1091.

Safety Plan For Pets

For abusers, harming or threatening to harm a beloved pet is a way of exerting control and intimidation, trading on the victim’s love for their pet and using that love as leverage to prevent an escape from an abusive and sometimes life-threatening situation.

Growing Hope in our Community

In Spring 2019, the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society commissioned a mural that went up along the side of Station Coffee Co., downtown on Second Street. When we think of what we do, the word “hope” comes up again and again. We give hope to families that a life free of abuse and violence is possible. Ending family violence in our community isn’t something that will happen overnight. But with vision, hard work, and time – just like a garden – it’s something we can achieve together. We hope this mural is a call to action for the community, so people are reminded of all the ways they can grow hope for a better tomorrow.
