Office Supervisor

Full Time Position - 40 hours/week

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the administrative and facility functions of the organization.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Organize and coordinate the functions of the administration office.
  • Oversee the computer network administration, coordinate with the IT company.
  • Provide supervision to the facility maintenance workers and administrative assistant.
  • Perform the duties of bookkeeper for the MHWSS by: entering accounts payable/receivable into SAGE accounting program; manage rent and damage deposits for programming; regular check runs and bank deposits; assist with year end audit, payroll and grant finance reports, and any other financial related duties as needed; update budgets and provide finance reports monthly for the board of directors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Business administration diploma, or degree
  • Minimum of two years office experience is preferred; supervisory experience considered an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills, able to learn new database systems and formulate reports.
  • Extensive knowledge of bookkeeping practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and the Sage accounting program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task several priority items while paying attention to detail.

Start date: Start ASAP

Rate of pay: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour, dependent on experience; benefits package available after 3 months, including an employer funded RRSP program, 3 weeks of paid vacation time.

Phoenix Safe House Support Worker

(1 Permanent Full Time position available)

The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society supports families who are experiencing family violence by providing them with safe shelter, education advocacy, and access to community resources.

As a member of the PSH support team, your primary responsibilities would be:

  • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with the individuals accessing Phoenix Safe House programs and services through one-to-one support, help line, case management, and small group facilitation.
  • Develop supportive relationships by applying helping skills within a family violence framework.
  • Provide information about and/or referrals to appropriate community resources and where necessary advocate with community agencies regarding a family’s needs.
  • Maintain health standards of the facility.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate documentation, record keeping, and statistics as required for program standards.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of family violence.
  • Familiarity with community resources to assist families with referrals as necessary.
  • Strong organization skills demonstrated through a mature and responsible work ethic.
  • A demonstrated history of working in a team effectively showing warmth, enthusiasm, humor and flexibility.
  • Social Work Diploma or equivalent education & related experience in the Human Services field is preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification as well as ASIST certification.

Start date:  ASAP

Rate of pay: $23.00 per hour; extensive benefit package available after 3 months including an employer funded retirement program. Three (3) weeks of paid vacation time per year.

Hours of work: Requires flexibility as Phoenix Safe House operates 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours in length, including day, weekend and overnight shifts.

Family Support Worker

(Full Time Contract until September 2023 – Phoenix Safe House)

The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society supports families who are experiencing violence by providing them with safe shelter, education, advocacy, and access to community resources.

Duties Include (but are not limited to):

  • Assess and intervene with children, youth and parents about behaviors associated with living in a violent family system.
  • Responsible to assist in the development and administration of programs for children, considering their developmental and special needs.
  • To make parents aware of the child support program expectations and program activities (both onsite and outreach).
  • To complete appropriate documentation.
  • To be involved in public education regarding the impact of family violence on children.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • B.S.W. and/or a degree or diploma in Child and Youth Care or another Human Services field.
  • Two years’ experience working with children, youth and/or families is preferred.
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR and ASIST

Rate of Pay: starting wage is $22.00/hour and will be assessed on an individual basis according to the candidate’s education and years of experience in the field.

Hours of Work: Flexible work schedule; shifts are 8 hours in length and can start as early as 7:30am and end as late as 9:00pm (done on a rotating weekly schedule).
