Phoenix Safe House Support Worker - (1 permanent FT position available)

The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society supports families who are experiencing family violence by providing them with safe shelter, education advocacy, and access to community resources.

As a member of the PSH support team, your primary responsibilities would be:

  • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with the individuals accessing Phoenix Safe House programs and services through one-to-one support, help line, case management, and small group facilitation.
  • Develop supportive relationships by applying helping skills within a family violence framework.
  • Provide information about and/or referrals to appropriate community resources and where necessary advocate with community agencies regarding a family’s needs.
  • Maintain health standards of the facility.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate documentation, record keeping, and statistics as required for program standards.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of family violence.
  • Familiarity with community resources to assist families with referrals as necessary.
  • Strong organization skills demonstrated through a mature and responsible work ethic.
  • A demonstrated history of working in a team effectively showing warmth, enthusiasm, humor and flexibility.
  • Social Work Diploma or equivalent education & related experience in the Human Services field is preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification as well as ASIST certification.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.

 Start date:  ASAP

 Rate of pay: $23.00 per hour; extensive benefit package available after 3 months. Employer funded RRSP program after one consecutive year of employment. Three (3) weeks of paid vacation time per year.

Hours of work: Requires flexibility as Phoenix Safe House operates 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours in length, including day, weekend and overnight shifts.
