The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society supports individuals and families who are experiencing family violence by providing them with safe shelter, education, advocacy, and access to community resources. We offer an innovative daycare program to individuals accessing our programs and services.

As a member of the children’s program team, your primary responsibilities are:

• Establish and maintain a healthy, safe, engaging, and enjoyable childcare environment for a variety of ages.
• Provide one to one support for children accessing programs and services, including family violence education.
• Manage child behaviours in a group setting using best practices.
• Establish and maintain appropriate documentation, record keeping, and statistics as required for program standards.
• Establish and maintain program routines.
• Maintain health standards of the facility.
• Facilitate age-appropriate opportunities for children to play.
• Provide basic care (feeding, diapering, etc.).
• Communicate and collaborate within a team.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Current First Aid/CPR certification
• (Level 3) post-secondary education in child & youth care, or early childhood education is preferred, equivalent education will be considered. Relatedexperience in the field is an asset.
• A demonstrated history of working in a team effectively showing warmth, enthusiasm, and flexibility.

Start Date: As soon as possible

Rate of Pay: $21.60 - $22.48 per hour; extensive benefit package available after 3 months. Employer funded RRSP program after one consecutive year of full-time employment. Three (3) weeks of paid vacation time per year.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. Flexibility may be required based on programming needs.

As a member of the PSH support team, your primary responsibilities are:

• Develop and maintain supportive relationships with the individuals who are
  accessing Phoenix Safe House programs and services through one-to-one
  support, help line, case management, and small group facilitation.
• Develop supportive relationships by applying helping skills within a family
  violence framework.
• Provide information about and/or referrals to appropriate community resources
  and where necessary advocate with community agencies.
• Maintain health standards of the facility.
• Establish and maintain appropriate documentation, record keeping, and statistics as required for program standards.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Working knowledge and understanding of family violence.
• Familiarity with community resources to assist with referrals, as necessary.
• Strong organization skills demonstrated through a mature and responsible work ethic.
• A demonstrated history of working in a team effectively showing warmth,
  enthusiasm, humor, and flexibility.
• Post secondary education in the human services field, preference given to those
  with social work or child and youth care education. Related experience in the
  field is an asset.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification as well as ASIST certification.
• Valid class 5 driver’s license, including a clear driver’s abstract.

Start date: ASAP

Rate of pay: $22.93 per hour; extensive benefit package available after 3 months.
Employer funded RRSP program after one consecutive year of full-time employment. Three (3) weeks of paid vacation time per year.

Hours of work: Requires flexibility as Phoenix Safe House operates 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours in length, including day, weekend, and overnight shifts.
